The RTX 5090's record low lasted exactly one day

Yesterday I wrote about the RTX 5090 hitting the lowest price we have ever logged. Today Amazon took it all back. $4,199.99 became $4,598.90 overnight, up 9.5%, which is the exact figure it sat at on July 29. One day at the record, then straight back to the shelf price. If you were still thinking about it on Wednesday night, that hesitation cost you $398.91.

This is worth internalizing if you are shopping the halo tier. That listing shows one unit in stock and it has been flipping between visible and unreadable for over a week. A price at this end of the market is not a plateau you can come back to. It is a single seller’s single card, and when it sells the next one gets listed at whatever the next seller wants.

The upside is that the used side suddenly looks sane again. That same MSI Ventus 3X OC 32GB is still sitting at $3,680, completely unmoved, and because new went back up it is once again a 20% saving rather than yesterday’s 12.4%. It has returned to the deals page after falling off it for exactly one day. Nothing about the used card changed. This is the second day running where the interesting movement on a $4,000 GPU was entirely on the new side, with the used listing acting as the stable reference point.

The other mover was smaller and more annoying. The RX 7600 went from $319.99 to $339.99, up 6.25%, and that pushed its used listing to a 41.2% saving at $200. That is now the single largest new-to-used gap in the catalog, edging out the RX 7900 XTX at 41.0% by about a tenth of a point. Two very different cards, two nearly identical discounts, wildly different reasons: the 7900 XTX gap is real depreciation on a genuinely expensive card, while the 7600 gap is mostly the new price drifting upward away from a used market that has not budged. Put them side by side and the 7900 XTX is the better use of $825 by a wide margin if your case and PSU can take it.

The used board grew from eight cards to ten. The RTX 5060 joined at 17% after its cheapest used listing slid from $319.99 to $299.99, and the 5090 came back at 20%. Worth noting what that growth actually means: not a single card in this catalog got cheaper on Amazon today. The board expanded because new prices went up, which is the least satisfying way for a deals page to fill out.

Everything else held. The RTX 5080 at $1,249.99, the RX 9070 XT at $739.99, the RTX 5070 Ti at $949.97, the RX 9060 XT at $469.99, the Arc B580 at $369.99 and the Arc B570 at $259.99, all flat. Both MSRP sections are empty for a fourth straight day and the RTX 5060 Ti is still the closest any card gets to launch pricing at 13.5% over. Two cards up, none down, and the best news of the day is a used listing that did nothing at all.
